A priest, a minister, and a rabbi got into a heated argument over who was truly the greatest at converting people to their faith. Each one insisted that his way was the most convincing, and none of them would back down. After hours of debating, they finally agreed there was only one way to prove it once and for all. They would each venture deep into the wilderness, find a wild bear, and attempt to convert it. Whoever succeeded would be declared the winner.<\/p>\n
A week later, they gathered to reveal what had happened.<\/p>\n
The priest was the first to arrive… but the moment everyone saw him, they knew this story was about to take a completely unexpected turn.<\/p>\n
He limped into the meeting wrapped in bandages from head to toe. One arm was in a sling, his forehead was covered with stitches, and he looked as though he’d been run over by a truck.<\/p>\n
The minister gasped. “Good heavens! What happened to you?”<\/p>\n
The priest smiled weakly.<\/p>\n
“I found a huge grizzly near a stream,” he said. “I walked up confidently, held out my Bible, and began reading Scripture. The bear didn’t seem interested. Instead, he stood up, roared, and knocked me halfway across the forest.”<\/p>\n
The others stared in disbelief.<\/p>\n
“I thought it was over,” the priest continued. “But I kept praying while the bear pawed at me. Then, almost miraculously, he calmed down. He sat beside me quietly while I finished reading. By the end, I truly believe his heart had softened.”<\/p>\n
The minister nodded respectfully.<\/p>\n
“That’s impressive.”<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, the minister began telling his own story.<\/p>\n
“I found an even bigger bear,” he said proudly. “Instead of reading from a book, I spoke directly from my heart. I told him about love, forgiveness, and redemption.”<\/p>\n
“How did that go?” asked the priest.<\/p>\n
“At first, not well.”<\/p>\n
Everyone looked at the deep claw marks running down both of his sleeves.<\/p>\n
“He chased me for nearly half a mile. I climbed a tree, but he climbed after me. I jumped into a river, and he followed. Finally, exhausted, I sat on a rock and simply kept talking. Something changed. He stopped growling… sat down… and listened.”<\/p>\n
The priest smiled.<\/p>\n
“So you converted him?”<\/p>\n
“I can’t say for certain,” the minister admitted. “But when I left, he gave me what looked very much like a friendly nod instead of eating me.”<\/p>\n
The two men laughed and turned toward the empty chair.<\/p>\n
“Where’s the rabbi?” asked the minister.<\/p>\n
Just then, an ambulance pulled into the parking lot.<\/p>\n
The back doors swung open.<\/p>\n
Two paramedics carefully wheeled out the rabbi on a stretcher.<\/p>\n
He was covered in casts from head to toe. Both legs were suspended. One eye was swollen shut. His head was wrapped like a mummy, and he could barely move a finger.<\/p>\n
The priest and minister rushed over.<\/p>\n
“My friend!” the priest exclaimed. “What in the world happened to you?”<\/p>\n
The rabbi painfully opened one eye.<\/p>\n
“I found the biggest bear in the forest.”<\/p>\n
The minister leaned closer.<\/p>\n
“Did you try preaching?”<\/p>\n
“Of course.”<\/p>\n
“Did you read Scripture?”<\/p>\n
“I tried.”<\/p>\n
“Did you reason with him?”<\/p>\n
“I did.”<\/p>\n
The priest frowned.<\/p>\n
“So… where did everything go wrong?”<\/p>\n
The rabbi let out a long sigh.<\/p>\n
Looking at the ceiling, he muttered,<\/p>\n
“In hindsight…”<\/p>\n
“…I probably shouldn’t have started with circumcision.”<\/p>\n
For a moment there was complete silence.<\/p>\n
The priest blinked.<\/p>\n
The minister covered his mouth.<\/p>\n
One of the paramedics burst out laughing.<\/p>\n
A second later, everyone else completely lost it.<\/p>\n
Even the rabbi couldn’t help smiling\u2014although it hurt too much to laugh.<\/p>\n
From that day forward, none of them ever argued again about who was best at converting anyone.<\/p>\n
