She woke her husband at 2 a.m. because she thought there was a burglar… but the real culprit was hiding in plain sight. 😂🏠

A married couple was asleep when the wife suddenly nudged her husband at 2 a.m. and whispered nervously,

“Wake up! I think there’s a burglar downstairs!”

The husband groaned, rolled over, and muttered,

“Call the police.”

A few minutes later, the wife shook him again.

“Honey… I heard footsteps!”

The husband stumbled downstairs in his boxers, holding a baseball bat like a hero.

He searched the kitchen, checked the living room, and finally returned upstairs.

“Nobody’s there,” he sighed.

The wife looked disappointed and said,

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“I definitely heard something.”

He climbed back into bed.

“Maybe it was the cat.”

“We don’t have a cat.”

“Then maybe it was the pipes.”

“We don’t have old pipes.”

He stared at her.

“Then what do you think it was?”

She hesitated.

“I don’t know.”

He pulled the blanket over his head.

“Fine. If you hear it again, wake me.”

Ten minutes later…

“BOOM!”

They both jumped.

The wife screamed,

“THERE! DID YOU HEAR THAT?!”

The husband grabbed his bat again.

He slowly walked downstairs.

Another noise came from the kitchen.

He raised the bat.

“Who’s there?”

Silence.

Then…

“CRASH!”

He switched on the light.

And froze.

Standing in the kitchen was their teenage son.

He was holding a bowl of cereal.

The husband stared at him.

“What are you doing?”

The boy looked equally confused.

“Eating?”

“At TWO IN THE MORNING?”

The boy shrugged.

“I was hungry.”

The father lowered the bat.

“Why were you walking around in the dark?”

“The light bulb burned out.”

The father sighed.

Then he looked at his wife.

She was standing at the top of the stairs.

She suddenly started laughing.

The husband frowned.

“What?”

She smiled innocently.

“I knew it wasn’t a burglar.”

He stared at her.

“You knew?”

She nodded.

“I heard our son come downstairs.”

“Then why did you wake me up?”

She smiled.

“Because you always tell me I worry too much.”

He stared at her.

“So you wanted me to investigate?”

“No.”

“Then what?”

She shrugged.

“I wanted to see how brave you were.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“At two in the morning?”

“Yes.”

“And carrying a baseball bat?”

“Yes.”

He looked at his son.

Then back at his wife.

“So I was your midnight entertainment?”

She smiled.

“Pretty much.”

The son started laughing.

The husband shook his head.

“You two are going to be the death of me.”

Then his wife walked downstairs and whispered,

“Don’t worry.”

“What?”

“If there’s ever a real burglar…”

She pointed toward their son.

“He’ll be the one going downstairs.”

Their son immediately stopped laughing.

“Wait… WHAT?”

The husband burst out laughing.

“Welcome to the family, buddy.”

And the three of them went back upstairs—

leaving the kitchen light on.

Because sometimes the biggest danger in a house at 2 a.m…

**isn’t the burglar.**

**It’s your own family. 😂**
